Daily humanity spends enormous sums of money to fight harmful the insects damaging or even destroying the crops in the whole communities. Despite improved methods of pest control, agriculture often powerless against some insects, especially unknown before in this area, which appeared only recently ha other countries. For example, in the US a lot of trouble now causes the "Japanese beetle", huge quantities clone in America. The authorities even went to gardeners asked to investigate this bug and test various tools on it fight until you find the best. It is not excluded, of course, the possibility that beetle intentionally brought to the U.S. by the Japanese, who deceived the vigilance of the American quarantine.

In pest control the best should be the one method, which does not need to spend expensive chemicals and exposing poisons fruits and vegetables, so as to further the elimination of these poisons also entails the consumption of labor and funds. From this point of view is very profitable for the destruction of insects using light, luring them into traps. Sometimes the traps are filled with oil or other and not evaporating viscous liquids, quickly killing insects, but not harmful to birds and Pets that may accidentally reach the traps. If the trap is equipped with just the bag, where the fallen insects can't to get out, that they can be used for fattening poultry, fish, etc. Collected large quantities of insects also represent valuable raw materials for technical fats.

Catching insects on light there is a very long time. But before it was done very primitive: lit any light source and destroyed or otherwise insect that had flown into the fire. Now after many years and very painstaking experiments scientists have discovered the colors, the most attracting or repelling insects to be destroyed. For grape pests lit blennophobia lights, as well as for insects, damaging the tomatoes. Legumes, bean and pea weevil most readily are sent to the source pale blue, but a very intense light. Dark blue light prefer pests of dried fruits, wheat, flour, etc.

To enhance attraction to traps, the effect of light combined with special smells. The study of the question, what smell attracts more Codling moth the browntail moth or winter looper, was very difficult: you need thousands of experiments to select the most effective bait.

It is difficult, of course, to say that will affect the insect first - light or smell. Anyway, when the outside of the flashlight is strong-smelling bait, insects fly to him so rapidly that never circling near the fire, and hit the glass of the mirror, or shade, fall down and die in the oil.

So as not to attract insects, but to clear a certain area, lamps close the flaps, and the rays of light then the trees of the garden beds or vegetable garden under it is quite certain angle. Light focuses special mirrors, placed behind the lamps. In addition, the surface of the oil also serves as a reflector and throws up a sheaf of light. Immediately installed and the vessel with large diameter oil.

The trap is another type hung on poles between the trees; it differs the fact that the lamp is placed a metal cylinder, which at high speed rotates the fan. The air sucks in insects, approached the lamp, moreover, the wings of the fan may cause damage. Insects fall down to the bottom removable bag made of light fabric.

Fig. 2. "Electrocutor": 1 - glow-tube; 2 - wire, charged high voltage; 3 - porcelain cylinders

The most interesting capture was "electrocutor" - a device that kills insects by electric current. Gas-discharge tube, coiled, is placed in a cylindrical wire cage, made of stainless steel. Top and bottom wire are strengthened in the porcelain rings that serve as insulation. Wire alternately join the terminals of the secondary winding of the transformer, and thus between adjacent wires there is a potential difference, enough to kill any insect that touched two wires. The distance between the wires is such as to destroy even the flies and the most small butterflies. The transformer is to power the lamp and to the creation of a potential difference across the wires of the cage. Gas-discharge lamp is selected special colors to attract mainly those insects, which have to save the protected area. Dead insects fall into the bag attached to lower porcelain end. This bag should be slightly larger than the "cells" to all the dead insects fall in it. The effectiveness of such protection vineyard of about 24 000 m2 is seen from this fact: on the vine in the vineyard with light protection accounted for about 70 pests, instead of 1 200 the plot without such protection; cash costs six times less than in other methods of pest control.

The use of such traps can bring significant benefits when cleansing pests of dried fruit warehouses, barns for grain, etc.

Through these witty combinations of light, killing fluid, electrical current and odorous baits may be disposed not only agricultural pests. Developed method and to control mosquitoes. It turned out that their attracts the white light source. For catching mosquitoes use ordinary sources of light, but very high intensity.

Interesting innovation in the fight against pests is a manual of "tube of death". This is a small lamp, carefully thread of which the glass cylinder allow to receive infrared rays, killing all the bugs. The lamp is enclosed in a cone-shaped steel case and has a comfortable handle. Conical reflector inside of the case directs to the object of irradiation bright the light spot. This stain immediately kills fleas, ants, moths, etc. Original purpose of "the lamp of death was the destruction of the parasites of dogs, cats and songbirds in captivity. However, experience has shown that this bulb can have quite large rooms and gardeners, as it can help quickly and easily clean the infected pests of small plants.
